Annie’s View (February 24th)

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

Hello Viewers,

I’m finally back with a new View. However, this View comes on a sad note. One of my favorite WCW wrestlers, Mike Awesome, was found hung Saturday. I know that Awesome was in ECW but since I live in California we didn’t get to see ECW until a few months before they were cancelled on the station I viewed them on and WWE took over. But what I did see of Awesome both in WCE and in WWE I loved. But this death is just so sad.
Usually, wrestlers die from addiction to pain killers but to actually hang yourself has got to be one of the saddest deaths in the world of wrestling. At least it’s right up there with Owen Hart. Speaking of Owen……

It’s that time of year again. Time for the who’s who of wrestling to go into the Hall of Fame. Who will it be this year? Well, we already know that Terry Funk is the first to make it this year. And with good reason.

Terry Funk has been considered one of the best wrestling personalities of all time. Hard Core, for sure. But also, he loved the sport. Still does.

Funk was truly hard-core and got a lot of other people loving not only wrestling but hard-core wrestling. Mic Foley is just one of the many.

I don’t really know how many wrestling federations he’s been in but I know he’s been in many and as old as he is, perhaps maybe all of them. A star in his own right, known all over in the wrestling world it’s good to see him recognized. Speaking of that……

Mr. Perfect will go into the Hall of Fame this year as well. But as a friend asked me, Why couldn’t it have been while he was still alive? It’s true, Mr. Perfect died very young and nobody really thought about him much as he was just gone from the sport. But I don’t think anyone thinks he doesn’t belong here in the Hall of Fame.

His style was just that, perfect. I still remember all the great shorts he used to show. They showed them tonight on RAW. His bowling the perfect game, his basketball going into the hoop perfectly even though he had his back turned. He walked out to the ring every time chewing that gym he’d throw up in the air and smack out of his hand.
He had bouts with every wrestler from Bret to Triple H and everyone in between. My favorite thing with the way he could control his body while in the ropes. He was a gymnast to say the least.

He was funny, he was good with the mic, he was a talent in the ring. He was Perfect. And he’s missed.

Now, who will be next? I’m not sure. What I do know is that Owen Hart should be included and soon. Gone from wrestling and not because he chose to be, Owen Hart was a fantastic wrestler and from what all of the wrestlers have said he was an even better friend.

I’m hoping that this year Owen is inducted into the Hall of Fame. I truly am. And I’m wondering about Davey boy Smith as well. But honestly, I think Owen is the man that needs to go into the Hall of Fame this year. Eddy’s there. Now Mr. Perfect. How about Owen?

Question of the Week: Who do you think should go into the Hall of Fame this year?

These are some of the comments you have sent me the past week. I liked them enough to put them in and hope they get you to write as well.

Ben wrote this about some of the choices in my last column. Here’s what he said: Hey Annie,

Nice report. Really couldn’t understand worst tag team of the year
including LAX and London/Kendrick. They were my favaourites, lol.

Nice to hear you started watching TNA a bit more.

Karen wrote about Team Canada and Samoa Joe. She gives her View here:
Samoa Joe is a funny case — either you love him or hate him, & I am among those who hate him because he’s slow, fat, & relies on guys in better shape to carry him in every match he’s in. When he’s in a match with someone else who’s big, fat & out of shape like he is, he’s totally exposed. On those occasions, I’ve seen him booed out of the building by fans chanting “Sloppy Joe!” He can’t talk very well either – he always comes across like someone doing a bad impersonation of fat Elvis. He also has a bad attitude & an enormous ego.

TNA has so many guys who are a million times better, it makes me sick to see him getting this big push.

Team Canada was an awesome team of Canadian wrestlers. They probably won that worst tag team category because they were such a great heel stable. They were broken up several months ago so that the standouts could go for singles stardom. They included Petey Williams (who has an amazing body too – yummy!), Eric Young (who has a ton of charisma), Johnny Devine (now part of Serotonin) and Robert Roode. Devine & Roode are also yummy, & Eric is cute. ;o) Devine was trained in the Hart Dungeon.

You should definitely watch

Max wrote this:
How come Bruno didn’t get the best of all time – maybe next time you should do a special old timers category, with some of your questions aimed at them.

My favorite this week comes from Ollie who wrote:

Hi Annie
In your Jan 21 Annie’s View, I quote:
“There are a lot of wrestlers I really like. There are a lot of wrestlers I don’t like. There are a handful of wrestlers I LOVE. Tripe H is one of them.
I hope he heels quickly but I hope he stays home a little longer than he needs to and rests.”

“Tripe”? Shouldn’t that be Tripple H? Perhaps you mean that he’s gutsy?

and my favourite:

“heels” Do you want him to come back a heel or do you want him to heal quickly?

I love these double entendres!
Thanks for a great column.

That’s it for another View. This is late because I just got home from an unexpected trip to the beach. Good thing I came home the day it started to rain. Now that was Perfect.

Until next time Viewers, be good or be like me, really good doing it.
