Annie’s View (Feb 19th)
Sunday, February 19th, 2006Hello Viewers,
It’s been a long time. Well, not that long but longer than usual for me. Okay, I’m so happy. I was figuring things out the other night online with my Webmistress (yes, I have one of those) and Annie’s View is in it’s ninth year!! I know, I should throw a party shouldn’t I? Nobody thought that a column would last that long much less a females. Which, just shows that sometimes, you don’t know well, anything. I try to write a weekly column but since wrestling has been so weak (Pardon the pun) it’s been rather hard.
That being said, tonight I’m full of all kinds of Views, thoughts and of course as always, I want YOUR Views as well. As I stated nine years ago when I started the View (which, btw, I still say Barbara Walters read it and stole the title for that talk show she has weekly) I said that this wasn’t just MY View but yours as well and that’s why I have always had a Question of the Week in my column.
I used to take the first five and that would be that. Then, I started getting a slew of answers and I had to give more time. If you recall (as the regulars will) there have been times when Annie’s View has been nothing BUT your Views. That is because I had received so many answers to one or two questions that really set your keyboards off.
I’m going to do that again this year. Also, I have had guest columnists and that will return here shortly as well. And, I would like to have a contest this year. Which simply put means that I’ll give a subject on wrestling and your to actually write about that subject. The hardest part will be actually choosing the best one and, knowing me, I’ll probably have several and do just that. Give you each a slot cause I hate playing favorites.
I’m not sure I’m supposed to say anything yet but Charity and I have been talking about revamping my site so watch for that to happen in the coming months. Wow, I think I’m done with that. At least for now. Oh, and I will be looking for another great banner to display Annie’s View so that will be something else as well. Now, onto wrestling.
BRET HART IN THE HALL OF FAME.
Now everyone knows that Bret Hart is my all time favorite. I have liked many wrestlers throughout watching wrestling. Hulk, Macho Man, Hunter and of course Benoit, Jericho and John Cena.
However, anyone that has been reading my column for even a year much less nine knows that my Hart lies with this man. Bret Hart.
I love wrestling because, unlike what the public says, or the news, wrestling in my View, is a sport. It’s a very physical and difficult sport. It’s bloody, and it can be extremely entertaining when, your actually seeing wrestling.
Which is why I’m saying Bret is my favorite. The man IS if nothing else, one if not the most talented wrestler to ever step into the squared circle.
There aren’t too many other wrestlers out there that actually set me on the edge of my seat while wrestling as much as Bret Hart does. And No, it’s not just because he’s good looking. If that were the case, Shawn Michaels would be my number 2 favorite.
No, Bret Hart gets into the ring and knows his opponent. He wrestles in such a way, you just want more. THAT is great wrestling.
Please don’t send me letters saying I hate Shawn or Benoit or Rey because that’s just not true. But I started watching wrestling in the early 80′s and that is when you actually tuned into a wrestling show and got more wrestling than talk.
Now, it’s like Howard Stern or Jerry Spinger with a ring. If you love Springer or Stern again, I’m not bad mouthing them I’m just stating a fact that Vince loves the entertainment more than the actual wrestling.
You know, his Dad didn’t want to sell him the WWF. He thought Vince wouldn’t know how to run the wrestling business and would ruin it. I’d love to see what his Dad would have to say about what Vince has done for wrestling.
And Vince has done a lot for wrestling. Don’t get me wrong. Vince got wrestling out of the small tents and convention centers and into the huge arenas.
Vince made the merchandise worth buying. And, he did make many of the stars. No, lets give Vince credit. However, I loved wrestling when it was that. Wrestling and to be honest, I get letters all the time from new Viewers saying they like wrestling to the older Viewers wanting to know where wrestling has gone?
If your really young lets say, in your early teens or even your tweens, trust me when I say, you probably haven’t really seen too many actual wrestling matches. Most of them are gone now with the exception of the few inside the $40 dollar PPV. Not everyone can afford these so, a lot of people only go by what they read on the Internet. If your lucky enough to have the cable show thats 24/7, you’ll see some actual wrestling. Otherwise, you have to wait for a really good time to see a really good match.
Tonight’s show wasn’t any different. The best match tonight on RAW was without a doubt John Cena/Edge with Foley as the referee. My gym buddy was over just as this match started. She said that she used to love wrestling (Keyword, used to) but that she grew bored with it because there just wasn’t any wrestling on it and it had gotten dumb.
But tonight I watched her. She was going to leave and then she saw Foley. She immediate sat down and made herself at home throughout the entire match. At one point she was yelling at Cena to just fall backwards and that would end Edge. (I’m sure you all know which part of the show I’m referring to here.)
Yes, this was a pretty good match. Why even Lita was told to leave ringside. Of course, she came back but still, you don’t mess with Foley. Sophia was hoping (as was I) that Mr. Socko would make an appearance. I’m thinking that’s for a later show now especially after what Edge did to Foley.
So your thinking, what does this have to do with Bret Hart. Well, simply put, matches like the Edge/Cena one were always found every week when Bret wrestled. Or when Owen wrestled because they were the Heart (Yes, I meant that pun) of the shows.
Why even Jerry Lawler said some very kind things about Bret tonight. Another great and talented wrestler we don’t see in the ring nearly enough for my taste just so you know.
One of my favorite Bret matches was the one with Jerry and Bret where they had the kiss my foot match. I loved that. But I love both of these men and think they’re both such talented men in that ring.
As much as I hated Survivor Series and all that came with it eight years later, I’m glad that both Bret and Vince could set aside their differences for the fans in making the DVD which of course, you know I own.
SHAWN MICHAELS
How many Michaels fans are there that enjoyed tonight’s RAW? Well, of course you knew that Shawn wouldn’t leave. I figure he’ll be at WM because C’mon, it’s Wrestlemania for crying out loud. I just don’t see him NOT being there do you? Word is that Bret will be there as well. One thing is pretty clear now, if I wasn’t buying WM before, I am now.
I think that one of the matches will be Vince VS HBK at Wrestlemania. Now lets face it, I’m not a huge Michaels fan but even I’d want to see this match. Why? Because I dislike Vince even more. No, that’s not really true.
I have actually sided with Vince on several occasions. Some of my Viewers have asked me ‘Hey, who wrote for you last week when you said Vince was okay’? Or something along those lines. HA.
A few Viewers have read Shawn’s book and say it’s a good read. I just haven’t read any of them yet. But I will.
PUSHING CANDICE ON PLAYBOY
You knew it was (ahem) coming. Yep, another Diva naked in the pages of Playboy. Now everyone think, how long did Christie last after her cover? No, thats not why she’s gone but still.
Christi’s gone (or so I hear) for being a flirt. Well holy cow, that’s all she did during the Diva Search and look where it got her. So why fire her now? Again, wrestling is odd. At least the business can be. But I hear she flirted with HHH and if thats true, well there you go.
Of course if you watched RAW you heard Candice say (in front of Torrie) that this was going to be the best Playboy ever so the flame has been lit. How long until it becomes an actual fire? Probably next week.
WHAT IS GOING ON WITH ORTON AND THOSE COMMENTS?
Not too many people are really happy with Randy right now. Well, actually I should say fans really. Most Eddy fans don’t like the fact that Randy is saying things like Eddy’s in Hell and not Heaven. I’m one of them. But I hear Vince likes it. I hear it’s Vince’s idea and I have also heard that he’s pretty pleased with himself. Isn’t he always?
The man just loves to tick people off and get other people’s blood pressure up. We are talking about Vince. So, what do you think of the story line? Please let me know.
WHAT ABOUT STACY??
I think Stacy’s gonna win this Dancing with the Stars. How many of my Viewers are voting for the lovely legged Keibler? Yeah, thats what I thought. The female judge doesn’t seem to really like Keibler but not many women probably would. Women are very catty people. I know, I am one.
The only other person I think that might have a chance against her is Drew. He’s pretty awesome on that floor as well. But I still feel Stacy’s gonna win.
In any case, the calls are flooding in for Stacy. Broadway wants her so that movie career can’t be too far behind. Is Vince ready to lose yet someone else to the lights of Broadway or Hollywood? First the Rock and now quite possibly the lovely Stacy. I guess not everyone leaves wrestling for other wrestling shows. Some actually move on to other things. Whatever she does, stays with wrestling or goes to Broadway, I wish her nothing but the best. After all, she is one diva that proves if nothing else, plastic isn’t always perfect.
Question of the Week? Yep. It’s brand new and from a good friend, Kenny.
He asked this question: What makes somebody a good worker?
So there you go Viewers, A View, A Question of the Week. So for right now this is me saying that’s all for now so until next time, be good or be like me, really good doing it.
