Annie’s View (April 6th)

Wednesday, April 6th, 2005

Hello Viewers,
See, I told you there would be another column soon. You didn’t believe me did ya? Oh ye of little faith.

Anyway, how was your day? I hope you all had a great weekend. I did. I really did. This was the Wrestlemania weekend here in SOCAL and of course they were everywhere. The only part that was hard was trying to decide who you wanted to see really bad.

Some of them were at different places but signing at the same time. John Cena and Chris Jericho were in two separate places at the same time so you really had to choose. That was probably the worse part of the entire experience. Who did I choose? I’m getting to that.

Anyway, I was planning on going to the Fox Hills shopping mall as I thought there would be a lot of them there. Which, there was, But not all of them.

Now on a totally unrelated note to WM, Bret Hart was going to be signing autographs at RVD’s comic book store. Boy, when I saw that my hart DID skip a beat. I thought to see him twice would be sooo yummy. Plus, Bret has never been in this area. Why? I honestly don’t know. Maybe nobody told him that he had fans in Southern, CA besides the fans up north. But he was coming and I was jazzed. But was I going?

As you all know (If you have actually been reading my columns) I have a gym buddy named Sophia. Well, she likes wrestling too (Who Knew)? and she really wanted to see John Cena. Now her EMT partner, Mike, is a HUGE Hart fan. So of course, being the Hart fan I am I figured I’d tell him where Bret was. He was so excited.

Now my gym buddy was driving and while she said she’d go see anyone, I thought hey, you know what? Your not THAT selfish of a person so, maybe you’d better go and see John Cena. Not a bad choice actually since I am a Cena fan. So I told her we’d go where she wanted and she chose Cena.

Three days before we were to go Sophia came down with a little cough. So she said ‘Lets not go to the gym as I want to be well rested when we go see that fine specimen of a man [Her words I swear) So we didn’t go. We didn’t go the next night either.

The night BEFORE the event Sophia called to tell me that she couldn’t go. Yep, she was sick and man did she sound it. Turns out that when you first become an EMT you pretty much catch anything and everything within the first six months. (Someone should have told her) Wait, her partner did but it was too late. So she wasn’t going. This meant Yep, neither was I.

Or so I thought.

Hubby wouldn’t hear of the WWE being in town and my not meeting at least someone. So he said ‘Lets go see Cena.’ I was shocked, stunned and ready.

We jumped into the truck and went. And what a mess. There must have been over one thousand people waiting in line. Probably more because I wasn’t really counting. But trust me the numbers were huge. So huge in fact, that I am not sure everyone walked away with a Cena signature.

My hubby looked at me and asked me ‘Do you really want to wait in that line? My reply was that of Stone Cold’s. Hell No.”

We left. I said nothing. I rested my head on the headrest and thought to myself ‘You should have gone to see Bret. I mean, he’s your favorite anyway. (Note: Yes, I do have conversations with myself once in a while)

Now this is why I am STILL married. Guess where we went? That’s right. Right over to RVD’s comic book store.

Now, for those of you that have never been to CA it’s getting like New York. Well, the people are. By that I mean rude crude and socially unacceptable. Nobody says Excuse me or Thank you. All right some do but still.

And yet.

When I walked up to try and catch a glimpse of my favorite wrestler to ever lace up a pair of boots these two guys that were right in my way of seeing anything MOVED. I know, I was as shocked and as stunned as you are right now. And there he was.

Bret The Hitman Hart.

Man did he look great. So did RVD. That’s right RVD was there as well. I am so short at 5’3 I couldn’t have gotten a picture with my digital camera if my life depended on it. I think this is why I used to date tall men. I married one as well. Hubby stands 6’4 and so I gave him the camera and he got me some really hot shots of RVD. Oh yeah, this was going to end up a beautiful day for me.

After this, hubby went to see about tickets. Sold out. No more so that meant so signature or picture of me with the Hitman. But hey, that’s so okay. Why? Glad you asked.

I have already had my picture taken with Bret. I have already gotten his signature. So just to be able to see him was good enough for this Hitman fan. It’s been a long time since I have seen him in person. He’s lost both parents, a brother, a brother in law, been kicked in the head and forced to retire and had a stroke. So of course I was very interested in seeing how he looked after all of this. Oh Yes, he’s also gotten married for the second time as well.

While I stood there and drooled and talked to all the other Hitman fans, hubby was off getting the lay of the land. I knew he wouldn’t go too far and did I mention, I was drooling?

He came back and pulled me aside and said ‘Follow me if you want to see Bret.’ Needless to say I followed him.

He then said ‘I have looked around and done some searching and this [Pointing to a door) is the way Bret entered the building and it’s the way he’s leaving it.’ He then pointed to the security guards heading in our direction as proof. So, on the bench, by the door I sat and waited. I waited about twenty minutes but I’d wait forever for a glimpse I’ll tell you that.

I was sitting and talking to a guy with a camera lens that was long and I knew he’d gotten shots of Bret that even Bret didn’t know about. We chatted and then here he came.

I stood up and took one of my ‘yoga breaths’ and as he started to pass I couldn’t help myself I just couldn’t. I called out ‘Hey Bret’ As he turned I heard myself tell him that I absolutely loved him. I am not kidding. Bret stopped for a second, looked me straight in the face and said ‘Thank you.’ Oh yeah it was all over but the crying then. Bret then left and I turned to my husband and with tears I just hugged him while saying thank you so very much.

Leave it to my husband to make sure that I’m never disappointed.

I do want to mention something here. I think it was great of RVD to offer Bret the chance to come to town and see just how many of his fans in the Los Angeles area have been longing to see him. Not to mention that this was also the biggest wrestling weekend for the WWE and RVD still brought Bret anyway. While I don’t know if Vince was happy or not about this I do know that Bret was SOLD OUT and that other wrestling fans chose to see him over ANY other WWE entertainer (Save RVD). Thanks again RVD you are now one of my all-time favorites.

I thought that I sounded like such a geek when I told Bret that I loved him though and I told one of my friends. He actually knows Bret and told me that Bret not only knew exactly how I meant that remark but took it just that way. That Bret was a very nice person and I need not worry about Bret thinking ill of me at all.

To finish off the weekend in such a great way, he bought the PPV for me tonight and I sat here by myself (he had to work) and watched Wrestlemania.

I had one of the best weekends of my life. Thanks to my husband.

I hope that all of my Viewers that watched the PPV enjoyed it as much as I did. Another column will soon follow this one.

If any of my Viewers met a superstar over the weekend, I’d love to know about it. Please email me and tell me where you were, who you saw and what they were like. I’ll put them in a View.

I’m exhausted now. So, I guess that’s another View. Until next time be good or be like me, really good doing it.
