Annie’s View (Aug 19th)

Thursday, August 19th, 2004

Hello Viewers,Welcome back. I know I have been gone for such a long time but I’m telling you, I have just been doing so much stuff.

I just came back from a road trip that my best friend and I like to call our Thelma and Louise trip. Why? Well, we basically wave good-bye to our hubbies and kiss the kids on the cheeks (okay, hubbies too) pack up and jump in her car and take off. Where? To this wonderful place where we meet up with more women that have done the same thing. We laugh, joke, and do all sorts of well, stuff I won’t say. But I’m back and I’m refreshed and I hope you missed me as I missed you. (um, you did miss me right)? LOL But of course there has been other stuff keeping me from writing my column.

Between going to the gym and working my butt off (literally) baby-sitting, taking off with my friend I thought that would be it. But then, we’ve had a little rough patch going on in my family. A cousin of mine has been diagnosed with Cancer and he’s just so very young. I may be packing my bags again but this time, it won’t be for fun.

I do want to take some time right now to thank Dogg for his kind words in Animal Talk. He made me feel absolutely wonderful and so loved. And, to all the ranters that mentioned their prayers were with my cousin. I so love you all.

That being said, I’m back and boy am I ready to write a column for you. So grab a coke (diet of course) and some low-fat snack or a high fat one if you work out and get ready for my View.

I haven’t done a column like this one in a long time. It’s time for a bits and pieces column I think. How about you? Well, all righty then. But first…..Visit Theringpost.com and read what’s new there. We have a lot of new stuff up right now, this column will be joining them shortly. Also, Kelly’s awesome newsletter. All girls all the time.

amazon_wrestling_views-subscribe@topica.comJust send Kelly an email and you’ll start receiving the newest article from one of the Amazons. Right now, you’ll get Sonia’s column on all the new wannabes in the WWE. Worth the read I can assure you of that.

Okay, I said bits and pieces so that’s what I’m going to do. So here goes.

Way back in June, my QOTW was about Bradshaw and what he did over in Germany. The responses from the Question should Bradshaw be fired or not? were amazing.

This is one that I received. I’m leaving the person’s name off as he knows who he is. He stated :A gimmick?” When you bring up memories of a regime that murdered 10 million innocent people and brought about a World War, it’s not a gimmick … as well as illegal in Germany. It’s wrong and there is no way to sugar coat it. If you lost a loved in WW II, I suspect you would feel different.

As I wrote to others with views similar to yours:

You couldn’t be more wrong if you tried.

Attempting to “get over” or push an upcoming match is no excuse for doing what Mayfield did. Claiming he didn’t know he was breaking the law is a cop out. He crossed the line by bringing up memories of the Nazi regime, which was responsible for the deaths of millions of people. His actions are utterly reprehensible.

CNBC terminated their association with him; an action that is entirely justified. Hopefully The WWE will take a similar course, or face the risk of losing some very disgusted fans. Using the Nazi goose step raises the specter of the hatred and death caused by them. Anyone who lost a family member in WWII, or one of the Nazi death camps can never forgive such actions.

You also belong to the group that blames VKM for every evil in the world. Making statements that VKM put him up to it are not responsible and could even be considered libel. You don’t know anymore than anyone else, so to say it as strongly as you did is wrong.

A Viewer that goes by the name of Kenny wrote this as a rebuttal:You don’t have a clue about the wrestling business. Exactly what do you think a gimmick is? It’s a role someone plays which bears no reflection upon that person’s actual personality or beliefs. If you’re suggesting someone can’t play a role that might bring up bad memories for people, then you must also believe that any actor in a movie or play who acts out a similar role is just as “reprehensible.”

This is entertainment. Is an actor no longer playing a role once he brings up bad memories for people? By that logic, you must believe that any actor playing a role in a World War II movie is no longer an actor, just as you would have us believe that what Bradshaw is doing is not a gimmick.

You’d like WWE to fire Bradshaw, because you don’t like what he did. Yet you don’t have to watch WWE; you do so by your own choice. If you decide to quit watching, that is your choice as well. Advocating that WWE fires Bradshaw is another matter entirely. Don’t presume to have the right to determine whether I can watch Bradshaw or whether he should be “allowed” to make a living doing what he has chosen to do. Who the hell are you to tell me what I can and can’t watch, listen to, and enjoy as entertainment?

You don’t have to like any form of entertainment I like; it makes no difference to me. There are many television shows, movies, and other forms of entertainment that I find to be disgusting, some of which you may like. I don’t try to get them censored or banned so nobody else can watch them; I simply choose not to watch or listen to them. I’m capable of making that decision for myself.

To try to arbitrarily draw a line between what is acceptable to you and what is not acceptable to you in a form of entertainment is your right, but to force your views upon others and decide what type of entertainment they should be allowed to enjoy is certainly not your right. Not only is it not your right but it violates the U.S. Constitution. There’s something called the First Amendment; maybe you’ve heard of it.

For you to say that WWE should change just to accommodate your tastes, even if it deprives me and others of enjoying the entertainment we choose to, and deprives a man of the right to earn a living doing what he has chosen to do is not only childish and intolerant, but also shows you have no respect for the principles this country was founded upon.

Kenny

I just want to thank both of these people for their Views and remind all of you that read my column, that this really is YOUR VIEW as well. So keep all those emails coming. I’m actually managing to keep my email to a decent amount right now but man, that took a lot. Which is one of the many reasons I’ve not been able to write a column. So, thanks to both of you for your Views and please, keep them coming.

Now lets move on to Flair. I’m in a group right now that have been discussing Flair’s new book. Everyone in my ranters group has their favorite wrestler. Of course you know who mine is. That being said, there are a few in this group that think Flair is the best while some think it’s Foley or Hart.

I’m not going to say anything bad about Ric Flair and what he said about any of the wrestlers that he mentioned. I am going to just point out that I find it funny that the only wrestlers that he really badmouthed are the ones that he probably won’t be climbing into the squared circle with. Now, of course, if he DID mention others that are still out there wrestling like Benoit, Hunter, you know anyone like that please email me and let me know because all I have heard so far is that he badmouthed Savage, Foley and of course Bret Hart.

Someone said that Flair has an ego. When I read that I just had to laugh. Don’t we all? Of course we do. And all the wrestlers have egos. I mean, you have to have some kind of an ego to get in front of a crowd and scream at the top of your lungs, put on any type of show for an audience. I would have liked to have heard that Flair badmouthed someone still in the business or and please don’t write me and say ‘But Annie, he did put down Bishcoff and he’s still there’ because Bishcoff isn’t a wrestler and that guy knows he’s a butthead.

The last thing I’ll say is that I do think it’s chicken of Flair to ONLY speak bad of people that he won’t face in the ring. Now that’s about his book. What about the man…….

I’m so glad you asked. I can’t stand him anymore. At one time he was fabulous. He was truly a great wrestler and had it all. Looks, style, and could handle that mic like nobody else. But now, Now he’s just a shell of his former self. I mean, did you see last week’s RAW or at least I believe that’s the one where he came out with Orton and Hunter and was behind them bowing… Excuse me?? Bowing to Hunter and Orton!! Shouldn’t it be the other way around with Flair as the legend and all, shouldn’t they have been bowing to him? It’s all just so sad anymore.

Foley. Remember I told you that I ran away with my girlfriend this weekend? While in the hotel room trying to find something to watch on TV, after finding out about FL, the New Jersey governor is gay and that Julia Child’s died. (Gee go away for a weekend and look at what happens) she was channel surfing. Now keep in mind that she hates wrestling. Oh sure she says it’s fake and all but she does admire their athleticism, I had my back to the TV and I heard the words Hulk Hogan.

Of course I turned around and she’d caught the tail-end of his biography. However, Mic Foley’s was coming on. Now this is a friend because she sat there and watched it with me.

With all the stuff that Flair said in his book, I was shocked to learn a lot more about Mic then what the WWE has just shown us. But they did a great job. While Flair called Foley a stuntman and this is true to an extent, I offer this. Could Flair fall off of a cage like that? When he was young did he? I want to know so if he did write me and tell me please.

All I’m saying is that between the tacks, the fire, the barbed wire, the falls, the punches and his surviving all those breaks in his body, sure he may never be a Ric Flair but by the same token, Flair will never be a Foley. Both are good at what they do (or at least Flair was) but to compare them together is like comparing an apple to an orange.

While I’m on the subject of Flair I’m going straight to the end of this week’s RAW show.

First of all, who didn’t know that Benoit was going to lose the belt this weekend to Orton thus, starting the Hunter/Orton feud? I did and I’m sure you all knew it was coming too.

Was I surprised by Hunter this evening? Nope. Not at all. Once again, I’m still a Hunter fan. I think I’ll always like Hunter. But the one thing I will say is that Hunter is no Shawn Michaels thus he’s no legend. At least not yet.

While on the subject of Orton (HEHE cool segue eh) I personally think that the main reason that Orton won the belt was because Brock took off leaving Vince twisting in the wind. I mean, he was the youngest to grab that title until now. And while I’m on the subject of Brock….

So the Troll err Brock Lesner is a football star now huh? Well, good luck because I think your going to need it. I read an article where he was interviewed as saying that if it were legal he’d stand on a street corner and fight all day long because he loves to fight. So, why not boxing then? Probably because he’d get the stuffing kicked out of him or, if he’s in the ring with Tyson, an ear bitten off. And, he took his girlfriend/fiance Sable too.. (Yep, Another Segue)..

GOOD-BYE and Good Riddens to Sable. I can’t believe she actually had the nerve to come back and ask for her job back after suing Vince. But of course I CAN believe Vince hiring her back just to make her do all the things that she said she never wanted to do. I still think she’s a huge hypocrite for her saying that Vince exploits women and then she poses for Playboy. Like the song says hey hey hey GOOD-BYE.

Then there is poor Lita. She’s in love with Matt. She sleeps with Kane so that Kane won’t hurt Matt. Now, she’s carrying Kane’s baby and everyone is calling her a slut or some horrid name.

Personally, I think the entire angle could have been good but, then came the wedding. Oh I know that’s not until this Monday but to have her say she’d marry the winner. You just knew then Kane was going to win. I knew, you knew the blind eighty year old down the street that doesn’t even watch wrestling knew. I just think its stupid. It would have been better had she married Matt and THEN found out it was Kane’s baby. Now that’s a story!

Well, I guess that’s all for me. (Don’t YOU feel lucky)?

The last week’s (Or should I say last time’s QOTW was WHAT DO YOU THINK OF FLAIR?

I’m still keeping that question for now. So until next time, which hopefully will be sooner rather than later. This is Annie saying “Be good or be like me, really good doin it.
